Bhartnatyam 2

24x19in
Oil on canvas
Bangalore, IN

A large oil painting of a clients daughter who is a Bharatanatyam dancer. exuding elegance, grace, and a profound sense of cultural richness. The dancer is depicted mid-pose, her body perfectly balanced in a stance that captures the essence of the dance's expressive storytelling. Her form is framed by dynamic, flowing lines that emphasize movement, energy, and rhythm.

She wears the traditional Bharatanatyam attire — a vibrant silk saree expertly pleated to create a fan-like effect at the front. The saree is adorned with rich hues of yellow, and gold, the colors symbolizing auspiciousness and divinity. Intricate gold patterns embellish the fabric, catching the light with every fold and crease, emphasizing the texture and sheen of silk. The pleats of the saree fan out gracefully, highlighting her wide, grounded stance.

Her fingers and toes are highlighted with red dye (alta), enhancing the clarity of her hand gestures (mudras) and footwork. Her hands are poised mid-mudra, fingers carefully arranged to tell part of a larger story. Her expressive eyes, outlined with bold kohl, gaze intensely at the viewer, exuding concentration, passion, and emotion.

The brushstrokes are smooth and deliberate, with special attention given to the details of her ornaments, the texture of the silk, and the delicate features of her face. The dancer’s expression captures *“Bhava”* (emotion) — a fleeting, yet eternal moment of devotion, storytelling, and divine connection. The painting as a whole radiates energy, power, and reverence for tradition, immortalizing a moment of perfect form and spiritual presence.
